False witness by Karin Slaughter

False Witness by @karinslaughterauthor

Rating : ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is my favorite Karin Slaughter book till date. In some ways, it reminded me of The Kept Woman ( Will trent #8), as its my favorite book in the series.

Dark, Gritty and Emotional. This book is not for the light hearted. There are so many trigger warnings: abuse, drug use, pedophilia, violence, rape, Covid. So readers beware.

Leigh and Callie are sisters living a very different life. Linda, a lawyer in a prestigious law firm while Callie is a junkie who lives as she pleases. They both share a dark secret. When a man from their past, emerges suddenly to threaten their whole existence, they have stick together to face the traumas of their past.

This is a 400 page book and there are lot of details about legal system, abuse and drugs. As Known, Karin Slaughter is known for her vivid descriptions. There are parts in this book, where I had to stop, take a breather and continue reading. This is not an easy book to read.

Alternating between the views of Leigh and Callie, the plot is carefully laid to keep enough tension throughout the book. Personally, I think the strength of this book lies in its characters. Though the relationship between Leigh and Callie forms the central plot , each and every other characters in the book are meticulously crafted. Walter and Dr. Jerry are some of the best supporting characters I have read. I felt invested in these characters so much they all felt real. In some parts, I could feel their emotions and pain.

I listened to the audiobook version of this book and Kathleen Early is a brilliant narrator. She brought all these characters to life. As I mentioned before, this is not for everyone. Some may find this book long, some may find it difficult to read. To me, its a book I will remember.
