The Midnight Library by Matt Haig

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This won good reads choice award 2020. In my opinion, it’s definitely worth the hype. I think this book would relate well with people who went through really tough times.

In life , when we go through really hard times , we think of what if’s .. We regret .. We question our choices .. We wonder why this life hurts so much ?
@mattzhaig has taken those questions and weaved it into a beautiful imaginary tale. What if you had alternative choices in life ?What if you had another life ? What if you could live any life you want ?

Loosely inspired from theory of multiverse, this book is deep and philosophical and it makes you think a lot.Throughout the book, there were things that I could relate and there were lots of takeaways.

Over and over , this book tells you , you are important, your life has a meaning and no matter what life you choose, there will be problems. We’ve to give away regrets and learn to love the life we have.

This reminded me of Mary Oliver’s poem.

Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life ?

Sharing my favorite part from the book :

“But it is not lives we regret not living that are the real problem. It is the regret itself. It’s the regret that makes us shrivel and wither and feel like our own and other people’s worst enemy.

We can’t tell if any of those other versions would of been better or worse. Those lives are happening, it is true, but you are happening as well, and that is the happening we have to focus on.”
