Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng
Winner of Goodreads ” Best Fiction” award. A solid 5/5 stars.
Little fires everywhere, as the title suggests is about crackling fires and intricate burns that happens amidst relationships. This is a slow character driven book that takes its own time in introducing the characters. Shaker heights is a model suburb in Cleveland, Ohio. Elena Richardson and her family has lived there for three generations. To Elena, everything is about rules. She follows the rules and believes that following them would help us create a perfect world. Then Mia Warren – an artist and her teenage daughter Pearl rents a house from the Richardsons. Eventually Pearl and Elena’s children become friends and Elena gets to know more about Mia Warren. Mia seems to have a mysterious past and something about her carefree attitude nudges Mrs.Richardson. When a custody battle evolves in the town regarding an Asian baby Mia & Elena take opposite sides and that starts the spark for the little fires everywhere.
The characters are the most important part of this novel. Each and every person in this book is carefully crafted and they seem so real. As you learn more and more about them, you feel that you’re a resident in Shaker heights and everyone becomes someone you know. And whose side will you be on? There is no right or wrong here and that’s the beauty of this plot. I don’t want to talk more about the plot or the characters because I feel you should experience them yourselves. I have not read Celeste Ng before and her writing reminds me of Fredrik Backman (who is one of my favorite authors). So I will definitely check out her other books.
Little fires everywhere is a fantastic book with great character Dynamics. One of the best reads of 2017. Do yourself a favor and pick this one up.
I’ll have to get this one! I’ve been wanting it for a while now 🙂
